Dear neighbor,

I am proud that the House voted unanimously to pass my bill, the Small Business Administration (SBA) IT Modernization Reporting Act, that will enhance the SBA’s ability to support the modern IT needs of small businesses. I also introduced two more bills this week:

The Cut the Burden, Keep the Benefits Act will support our small businesses by giving them an opportunity to voice all of their regulatory concerns, including tariffs and healthcare.
The Corporal Fernando Ruiz Baltazar Posthumous Citizenship Act would grant symbolic, honorary posthumous U.S. citizenship to select Filipino noncitizens who served and died in the U.S. military during World War II.

It was a busy week in Washington, D.C., but it is an honor to work for the people of CA-31.

Catch Up With Congress

I am proud to announce the passage of my bipartisan bill with Rep. Brian Jack, the SBA IT Modernization Reporting Act. This legislation will enhance the SBA’s ability to develop, implement, and manage future IT modernization projects and strengthen how the SBA supports small businesses nationwide.

I introduced the Cut the Burden, Keep the Benefits Act to cut through red tape that prevents small businesses from thriving. My bill will allow small businesses to report cumbersome regulations and require the SBA’s Office of Advocacy to accurately address the needs of small business owners across America.

I also introduced a bipartisan bill with Rep. Pete Sessions that will grant symbolic, honorary posthumous U.S. citizenship to some Filipino noncitizens who served and died in the U.S. military during World War II. This will be a pivotal step in recognizing those who fought for our country, regardless of citizenship status.

The Pentagon’s Inspector General’s report confirmed what we’ve known all along – that Pete Hegseth is not fit to be the Secretary of Defense. He failed our troops, and the American people, when he recklessly endangered the lives of our servicemembers by compromising sensitive military intelligence.

This Week in California's 31st

Throughout CA-31, our schools have seen incredible young athletes bringing home historic wins this season. I proudly recognized some of our teams on the House floor this week.

The South El Monte High School Lady Eagles volleyball team brought home their first-ever CIF-SS Division 9 Championship! These athletes kept training, refused to quit, and pushed themselves all the way to this historic win. Your community is very proud of you.
Congratulations to the South El Monte High School Eagles football team for winning the 2025 CIF Division 14 Championship game. Through teamwork and determination, they claimed the school’s first ever championship in a nail-biting 14-6 win. You have made CA-31 extremely proud.
The 2025 football season for the Baldwin Park Braves was nothing short of inspiring! Through hard work and perseverance, they showed true spirits of a champion and inspired us all. Well done, the Braves!

Last week, it was great to visit Maruson Technology in the City of Industry to discuss the challenges they face like high costs of business, tariff impacts, and insurance. Maruson Technology is a small business that designs and manufactures power solution products and was part of the Goldman Sachs #10KSmallBiz program.
