Much of the work I do involves issues that don’t make front-page headlines. They’re issues that affect us quietly; lesser-known, but no less important.
I’d like to tell you about a few things I’m working on at the moment, but before I do, will you take a moment to chip in just $5, $10, whatever you can, to help me deliver for the hardworking people of Maryland?
- Investing in women’s health: I introduced the Healthy Maternal and Obstetric Medicine (MOM) Act because currently, health insurance companies don’t consider pregnancy to be a qualifying event for a special enrollment period. The Healthy MOM Act would change that.
- Protecting federal workers during future shutdowns: I introduced and co-sponsored several bills to freeze student loan and mortgage payments, grant access to unemployment benefits and retirement funds, and guarantee back pay for all federal workers.
- Defending civil rights and liberties: The Voter Purge Protection Act would halt GOP voter purges and require officials to notify voters before removing them from the rolls; the Restoring Access to Detainees Act would force ICE to allow people in custody regular contact with their lawyers; and the Resolution Against Book Banning would address the growing problem of book banning, which is an attack on Americans' free speech.
- Keeping communities safe with the No Nuclear Testing Act, which would ban use of federal funds for explosive nuclear tests, and the Background Check Expansion Act, which would require background checks for nearly all gun sales.
That’s not all. I’m also working to pass legislation to keep Social Security benefits aligned with inflation, stop Trump’s taxpayer-funded Argentina bailout, protect SNAP and Head Start programs, and more.
I have a long to-do list, and a ton of work to do both on and off Capitol Hill. Your grassroots support helps me update you regularly on my efforts, especially on issues that don’t get the coverage they deserve.
If you can, will you pitch in $10 to help me continue removing barriers to success, tackling long-standing injustices, and building a BOLD and BRIGHT future for Maryland?
Together,
Angela Alsobrooks
