#FreeAndSafe communities start with voting in your state attorney race. You have the power to fight mass incarceration by holding prosecutors accountable!

In less than a month, prosecutor races will happen in Michigan’s two most populated counties: Oakland and Wayne. Both races are hotly contested and the winners will shape the local criminal justice landscape for the next four years. YOU have the power to elect the county prosecutor that reflects your values and is committed to ending the epidemic of mass incarceration.

Whether you live in Oakland or Wayne County or another county in the US with an upcoming state attorney election, join Advancement Project National Office and the Players Coalition Charitable Foundation Wednesday, July 22 from 6 to 7:30pm ET, for our “Power of Prosecutors: Know Before You Vote” virtual town hall where we will discuss the power of local prosecutors in our criminal legal system and their role in fueling our epidemic of mass incarceration. We will spotlight the prosecutorial landscape in Wayne and Oakland counties in Michigan, and share ways you can support a new vision for safety and justice in our country that is rooted in decarceration.

We, alongside our partners ACLU Michigan, Michigan Liberation, FORCE Detroit, MOSES and Detroit Justice Center, will provide attendees an opportunity to learn about the role of prosecutors in the criminal legal system in an effort to ensure voters feel empowered before arriving to the polls. Join us to get a deeper understanding of the issues at stake and the power of your vote to call for justice in YOUR community. Alongside Players Coalition Charitable Foundation members NFL players Duron Harmon, Christian Jones, Trey Flowers and Jalen Reeves-Maybin, we will share:

  • an overview of what powers the prosecutor has;
  • what demands local communities are calling for in this race - and others around the country; and
  • information about registering to vote and how to vote by mail.

RSVP today and share with your neighbors and friends.

Advancement Project National Office’s Justice Project proudly supports grassroots movements in communities of color that challenge racial criminalization and attack all aspects of the criminal legal system. We help local campaigns seeking not simply to reform, but to wholly dismantle systems that criminalize and incarcerate people of color in the name of “law and order.” We aim to help impacted communities define the terms and control the means by which safety is realized in their streets and neighborhoods and to re-imagine for themselves how “safety” is pursued.
