I made a decision back in 2018 when I ran for the first time to reject corporate PAC money.
Every single political consultant and Washington insider told me not to do it. They said we had to raise a lot of money to win (which was true) and it'd be a mistake to turn away that money — especially ‘easy’ money.
It was the right decision for me, but I wanted to share a quick story about what happened after that 2018 election — because I think it shows you in clear terms how those donations can twist our political system.
The reasons I rejected corporate PAC money back 2018 remains the same today: I never wanted anyone in Michigan to wonder if I was voting a certain way because of corporate PAC donations.
