There have been some notable carpetbaggers in recent years. “Doctor” Oz in Pennsylvania (he’s from New Jersey). Herschel Walker in Georgia (a Texas guy).
An honorable mention goes to Rep. Darrell Issa (R-California), who just ruled out moving to Texas to run in a red seat to save his political career.
None of those guys come close to rivaling the most infamous political carpetbagger of all time: Lauren Boebert.
Because if you look up Lauren Boebert in the dictionary, here’s what you will find:

Boebert was born in Florida the same week Trisha was born in Colorado. Boebert lived in a town called Rifle in western Colorado. She represented the 3rd district in Congress from 2020 to 2024. But she did such a poor job there (and embarrassed herself so hard at a theater in Denver) she was practically run out of town on a rail.
Now, Lauren has moved all the way across this state and is pretending to care about the people in Trisha’s Congressional district and home town—the place where Trisha grew up and where she lives, the community that raised her.
Trisha’s neighbors here in eastern Colorado are ready to follow suit and get rid of Boebert this year.
Boebert was only reelected by 546 votes, or less than 0.5% of the vote. In 2024, as her Democratic opponent, Trisha Calvarese had the best performance a Democrat has ever had in this district, overperforming Kamala Harris by 6 pts as Boebert underperformed Trump in every single county.
