Hi John!
Throughout the year we have made strides together, proving collective action continues to bring real change to our community. Here are some of the highlights from 2025:
We are 640 members strong and growing! Thanks to the dedication of our members, we were able to see Measure A and Prop. 50 pass, showing what’s possible when we stay organized and focused. We also saw real momentum around No Appetite for Apartheid. This achievement not only strengthens our chapter’s work on international solidarity, but also helps build long-term power by building relationships with local businesses and sharing how they too can be part of international solidarity.
Beyond these wins, our members continue to show up in powerful ways. From supporting striking workers to continuous political education, your commitment is what sustains this organization and ensures that democratic socialism has deep roots in our community. Democratic socialists have a historic opportunity and responsibility to play a central role in continuing the political revolution for the long term. As a democratic, grassroots organization, DSA is prepared to meet this challenge. Become a member today.
As you read through this month’s newsletter, celebrate these victories we've achieved together and join us in the work still ahead.
In Solidarity,
SV DSA

Family in Gaza Needs Our Help
|
A local comrade has established a direct connection with a family of seven in Gaza who have endured unimaginable conditions and are urgently in need of help. While they have temporary shelter, they face immediate expenses: $600 monthly rent (landlords don't quit in times of crisis), ongoing medical care for injuries, winter clothing, and expensive food supplies. Given the ongoing, dire situation, this is a critical opportunity to ensure a family remains housed and safe. We ask that members show up for this family now by donating directly to the verified GoFundMe, or by sharing it widely with their circles. Update: Housing Working Group Supports Summerwind Apartments
|
Tenants at Summerwind Apartments in East San José have endured years of atrocious conditions including cockroaches, mold, and broken elevators which their landlords, Richard and Brent Gregersen, have refused to fix, all while retaliating against their tenant association. Despite multiple Code Enforcement complaints, the Gregersens (Richard, in particular, has been found guilty of fraud for similar neglect at another property) have faced zero fines, highlighting the failure of an understaffed and defunded city bureaucracy to hold slumlords accountable. In a significant step forward, we mobilized for the San José Appeals Board hearing on Nov. 13 alongside the tenants and the Silicon Valley Law Foundation. Following strong public pressure, a Deputy Director of Code Enforcement agreed to review the multiple pending cases and connect directly with the tenants association, bringing the residents one step closer to securing fines and much-needed repairs.
👉🏼 Silicon Valley DSA is organizing to strengthen tenant unions as we struggle for housing justice and social housing. Join our Housing Working Group to fight back.

Labor Working Group Pickets with Starbucks Workers on Strike
|
The Labor Working Group and other chapter members, along with allied groups, are actively supporting the ongoing nationwide Starbucks Workers United (SWU) strike, which reached San José on Thanksgiving weekend. On Friday, Nov. 28 there were nine SV DSA members at the Capitol Plaza strike, including members from Peninsula DSA. SV DSA members are consistently present at the picket lines holding signs, chanting, and engaging in political education, and groups like Food Not Bombs are providing essential supplies. This solidarity effort is building strong rapport with unionizing workers. As the strike expands to include another store on Dec. 11, we encourage all interested members to sign up for picket duty in the group's Slack thread.
👉 If you're interested in workplace organizing and supporting unionized workers, the Labor Working Group is making significant progress.

Tech Committee Conducting Cyber Security Audit
|
The Tech Committee has initiated a comprehensive cybersecurity audit of SV DSA systems and processes. The goal is to identify and resolve any security gaps in our systems, ensuring the highest level of security of our comrades. This audit also aligns our chapter with National DSA guidance and other Bay Area chapters. If you have questions or want to help, please reach out in the Tech Committee Slack channel or stop by one of the committee meetings.
