Hi John,

As you know, DxE investigator Zoe Rosenberg was recently convicted of felony and misdemeanor charges for rescuing four suffering chickens from Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse. Zoe's story has taken off, sparking a national debate about why our legal system punishes rescuers while ignoring clear evidence of cruelty.

On Wednesday, in front of a packed courtroom, Zoe was sentenced to 90 days in jail for her act of compassion, but she was undeterred in speaking up for Petaluma Poultry’s victims. Both in the courtroom during her hearing and outside at a press conference before the media, Zoe promised she would not stop fighting for animals. Her jail sentence generated multiple front page stories locally and it was covered by major outlets including ABC News (which also published to Good Morning America), Democracy Now, The Guardian, and The Associated Press, which was picked up by The Washington Post, Fortune, and so many others.

Public support has been overwhelming. Within just a few days,
more than 25,000 people emailed Governor Newsom asking him to pardon Zoe’s conviction and free her from this life-threatening jail sentence.

The situation is now extremely urgent. Zoe must surrender herself at the Sonoma County jail in just 2 days, on December 10. Friends and supporters will accompany her to the jail to say goodbye and hold a vigil outside as she is taken into custody. Zoe’s Type 1 diabetes and gastroparesis make jail incredibly dangerous for her.

We need everyone to act now. Here are 3 ways you can help in this critical window:

1. Sign and share the petition to Free Zoe.
If you haven’t already, add your name and send the link to your friends, family, and coworkers:
FreeZoe.org

2. Join an upcoming Free Zoe March or plan your own solidarity action.

Free Zoe marches are planned for this Saturday, December 13th in
San Francisco and New York City, and Sunday, December 14th in Los Angeles. You can organize your own Free Zoe protest or outreach event with this simple campaign guide: dxe.io/guide

3. Keep sharing Zoe’s story.
Every post, article share, and conversation keeps public pressure growing.

Plus, today, we’re officially launching our end-of-year fundraising campaign! Your support is vital as we continue to harness the momentum of Zoe’s unjust incarceration and turn it into positive change for animals. From now until January 1st, a DxE supporter is matching all donations up to $100,000. Help us take advantage of this incredible opportunity and show your support for animal rescue by making a donation today.

With gratitude,
Cassie
