130 Million People May Face Chronic Hunger
<[link removed]>
Hi there,
The ripple effect of COVID-19 has brought untold pain and hardship across the
globe. Infection numbers continue to rise, more companies are struggling to
survive, terrifying swarms of locusts are destroying food sources and millions
more people are going to bed hungry every night. We are living through very
challenging times.
On Monday, an annual report
<[link removed]>
which tracks progress towards ending hunger was released. With it came
devastating news:over 130 million more people may face chronic hunger by the
end of this year.
Global hunger was on the rise even before the pandemic, but the new findings
are staggering. The world produces enough food to feed everyone, yet just last
year2 billion people lacked regular access to safe, nutritious and sufficient
food.
The warning signs couldn’t be clearer –– the world is off track from
eliminating hunger by 2030 and we have a collective responsibility to turn this
around.
Add your name to this petition now calling world leaders to step up and
urgently tackle hunger by investing in agriculture
<[link removed]>— so
farmers can grow more food, end hunger, and give their communities a better
chance to emerge from this pandemic unscathed.
Thanks for all you do,
Mwandwe and the Global Citizen team
