John -- Women's Equality Day is celebrated in the United States on August 26. It commemorates the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which gave (white) women the right to vote. While this is something to celebrate, people of color, including indigenous Alaskans, could not vote until much later. Also these days women's rights are at risk like never before:
Al and I are both doctors. He's an orthopedic surgeon and I'm a pediatrician. We both understand how complex medical decisions are best made between patients, their families, and their doctors. We will always fight to protect a woman's right to choose. We also understand how the high cost of healthcare in Alaska hurts your wallet and harms our economy. Ninety-nine years ago we gained the start of a voice in our democracy. Now it's never been more important for us to rise up and be heard. That's why I'm urging you to help us fight back on Women's Equality Day. Please donate to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Dr. Al Gross for U.S. Senate to help mobilize women and allies between now and the 2020 election. Thank you, Monica Gross
