For lower-income countries in debt crisis, like South Sudan, a debt justice law can’t come soon enough. Right now, South Sudan is being sued for unpaid debts by oil trader BB Energy. South Sudan is one of the poorest countries in the world and currently deep in a humanitarian crisis. Meanwhile, last year BB Energy made nearly $300 million in profit.

Our government has it within its power to stop this injustice. Because South Sudan’s debts are overseen by UK law – along with a massive 90% of the debts owed to big finance by countries in debt crisis. A simple change to the law here could stop private lenders like BB Energy using UK law to sue lower-income countries in crisis. And instead force them to cancel unfair debts – freeing up critical funds for basic services like healthcare and education.

Thanks to supporters like you, our campaign has already taken several strides forward. Every single pound donated through the Big Give will build on that progress – taking forward the momentum of Jubilee 2025 to pile the pressure on our government to act.
