Day 1 of Novena to St.
Anne
Dear Friend,
On the first
day of our Novena, you and I can reflect on St. Anne,
who followed God’s will to such a degree that she eternally bears the
treasured title of mother of Our Lady and grandmother of Jesus.
Undoubtedly, Our Lord holds a special place in His Sacred Heart for
his grandmother. When we invoke St. Anne, she will bring our
intentions straight to her grandson. And who can refuse their
grandmother?
She is our heavenly grandmother too.
As you know, grandmothers have a special relationship with their
grandchildren. We associate a grandmother’s love with an unconditional
and all-encompassing love. We all understand the human phenomena of
relationships in which grandchildren might seek favors through their
grandmothers because they have a reputation of “spoiling” them.
As St. Anne’s feast day approaches, I invite you to take a
grandmother’s favors to a celestial level.
Please join me in a novena of prayer to St. Anne to begin
today, July 18th and end on the Feast of St. Anne, July
26th.

Over these nine days, let us plead for our personal intentions as
well as for our loved ones who have sailed away from the harbor of
Truth. Let’s also ask St. Anne to fortify us in our daily spiritual
battles.
Devotion to St. Anne has spread throughout the world. In Quebec
City, the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré houses major relics of her
finger and the forearm which held the infant Mary. Half a million
pilgrimage there each year and to St. Anne’s credit, we know that
countless sick have been miraculously cured on site. May these
beautiful witnesses serve to break our hesitations to ask; we need
only ask her to obtain favors for us too!
