As the post-election analyses come in from 2025 campaigns across the country, one thing could not be more clear: Democrats turned out to vote!

And it wasn’t just in the urban areas. In Virginia, the rural vote shifted a whopping 12 percentage points in favor of Democrats. Similar trends are popping up in other states too.

Competing in rural areas matters. And that’s especially true right here in Texas where Republicans have been attacking rural communities for years. They are defunding our public schools, closing rural hospitals, driving up costs, and prioritizing right-wing billionaire interests over hard-working Texans.

That’s why the work Powered by People is doing is so essential. We’re holding events in every part of the state, registering and turning out voters, recruiting candidates to step up and run, signing up volunteers, and meeting people where they are. And we’re not doing it alone.

Our friends at Blue Horizon Texas PAC have been working tirelessly to help recruit and support candidates in rural communities. They’ve stepped up by assisting with dozens of candidate filing fees through their grant program and by training hundreds of down-ballot candidates. We’re in this fight with them as we build a coalition of partners who are doing the on-the-ground work.
