Friend -- That's what Justice Kagan wrote in her dissent when the Supreme Court's conservatives ruled a year ago that federal courts could not limit partisan gerrymandering. She may have been referring to constitutional Framer Elbridge Gerry, the man after whom gerrymandering is named and whose 276th birthday would have been today.
Justice Kagan was right -- these days, Republicans use sophisticated computer programs to pack and crack districts so they can stay in the majority even when they receive fewer votes than Democrats. And they'll do it again in 2021 if we don't stop them by winning up and down the ballot in 2020.
