As the Trump Administration continues to threaten healthcare, Cook County is acting now - protecting care, expanding access, and ensuring residents get the services they need.

Every day, we’re strengthening the services working families rely on: expanding access to care, rebuilding community institutions, and making our health system stronger for the long haul.

A Stronger, More Connected System of Care

Now open in Englewood: The fully renovated Ada S. McKinley Community Services Center is a first-of-its-kind hub serving families, seniors, and people with disabilities.

Services include:

  • A mental wellness clinic providing outpatient behavioral health and counseling

  • The South Side’s first-ever Youth Crisis Stabilization Center

  • Sophia’s Café, a community café and workforce program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Cook County invested $1 million to bring all these services under one roof for the first time in Ada S. McKinley’s 106-year history.

This year we also opened the Bronzeville Health Center, another step toward ensuring a neighborhood-based system of care. Since April, more than 18,000 visits have taken place for family medicine, behavioral health, and rehabilitation services.

These improvements build on our $13 million investment in modernizing Provident Hospital and expanding crisis services across the South Side.

Delivering Real Results for Cook County Families

Across our entire health system, Cook County Health has delivered:

  • Coverage for 400,000 Cook County residents through CountyCare, the highest-rated Medicaid plan in Illinois, offering primary care, behavioral health, specialty care, and innovative supports like Food as Medicine
  • 18,000 mammograms in 2025 so far, nearly half for uninsured women
  • 200,000+ patients served and 600,000+ visits across primary care, specialty care, and the emergency department

Protecting Care and Planning for the Future

Cook County’s health system is built for today and prepared for tomorrow. This year we:

  • Added $320 million to reserves with no new taxes or fees
  • Grew the permanent behavioral health workforce almost 40%
  • Increased public health funding by 15%
  • Expanded our partnership with the University of Illinois to create joint clinical programs across 16+ specialties, growing medical education and advancing research

These investments strengthen care today and safeguard our communities against future federal cuts and threats.

Protecting the services working families rely on is our priority - and we’re proud to have earned the Chicago Federation of Labor’s endorsement.
