Dear John,
|
|
I'm urgently writing to you about the horrors in Sudan. Please don't look away.
More than 150,000 people have now been killed as a vicious civil war descends into full-blown genocide. Rival armies are committing mass atrocities, and millions have run for their lives, creating the biggest humanitarian crisis on Earth.
So much blood has been spilled, you can literally see it in satellite images from space.
Thanks to the generosity of Avaaz members like you, we've already delivered over 2.1 million dollars in humanitarian aid. It's providing food and emergency shelter for over 300,000 people, and counting. But the crisis is only getting worse, and governments are doing almost nothing.
That's why Avaaz is stepping up our response, and we're counting on your support. Together we'll help to unlock a flood of humanitarian aid, push to protect civilians fleeing famine and violence, and expose those fuelling the war for their own benefit.
Everything Avaaz does is entirely funded by small donations from people around the world -- and today I'm humbly asking you to join us. Your donation will help to power life-saving work in Sudan and everything Avaaz does to fight for human rights in 2026.
The most powerful way to support this work is with a regular donation, which helps us plan ahead and stay in the fight for as long as it takes. If that's not possible, please consider a one-off donation. Simply, the more we raise, the more we can do.
Sudan is screaming. Let's make sure the world can't look away. Please donate what you can now:

Sudan is one strand of the powerful human rights work we'll be doing in the months ahead. With your support, we'll also rise for a free Palestine, back the world's most important Indigenous leaders to protect our planet, and unite to stop a deadly oil pipeline in East Africa. Regular donations are critical because they allow us to plan ahead and sustain our life-saving work over the long term -- while ensuring we can also respond to emerging human rights violations at lightning speed. To be direct, we're asking you to help fund the protests, investigations, and all the organising and advocacy that we believe could change the world in 2026. Avaaz doesn't take a cent from governments or corporations because we don't want anyone pulling our strings -- but that means we are entirely reliant on support from our members. If we raise enough, we could: - Help protect civilians and push to end the war in Sudan -- we'll push for safe evacuation corridors and desperately needed aid, help to break the communications blackout, dramatically increase public pressure and unmask those bankrolling the violence;
- Power our campaign for a free Palestine -- the worst may be over but that doesn't mean there's peace or dignity for Palestinians. Your support will expand our team to help rebuild Gaza and make sure that Palestinians have a voice in what their future holds;
- Unite to stop a deadly oil pipeline in East Africa -- we'll support the families who've lost their lands and livelihoods, help to free activists in custody, and build on the global pressure that's already convinced 43 banks to walk away from the project;
- Fund rapid response in critical moments -- when women from Afghanistan were being hunted by the Taliban, it was Avaaz members who lobbied for their asylum, paid for travel, and their relocations to safety. Regular donors made it possible for Avaaz to respond rapidly when those women needed help. In 2026, your support means we can keep our rapid response team at the ready.
- And supercharge bold new campaigns, tackling the biggest threats to humanity and life on Earth.
The future isn't written in stone, it's written by those who show up. Please start a regular donation today:

The strength of our movement comes from millions of people uniting when it matters most -- and together, we’ve achieved extraordinary things. The stories below are just a glimpse of what donations from Avaaz members made possible in 2025. Every action you took fuelled something bigger than any of us alone. With fierce hope and determination, Kaitlin, Mike, Adela, Nell, Shayna, Will and the whole Avaaz team 4 Ways Your Donations Made an Impact in 2025- 🕊️ We provided food, medicine, and emergency shelter for 300,000 people fleeing civil war and famine in Sudan -- delivering millions of dollars in humanitarian aid to local Emergency Response Rooms.
- ❤️ We are helping secure relocations for brave women activists hunted by the Taliban -- and a first group of 65 people has already reached safety in Brazil. Your donations paid for visas, flights, and one year of resettlement expenses.
- 🩺 We brought 11 doctors from hospitals in Gaza to meet with European leaders. Their stories helped push Spain and Germany to pass a sweeping sanctions package and partial arms embargo against Israel. Avaaz members also helped fund the Freedom Flotilla that sailed to Gaza, bringing international attention to the humanitarian blockade.
- 🌳 We pushed Brazil's President to put over 2 million hectares of the Amazon back into the hands of Indigenous communities -- protecting part of the rainforest (almost the size of Belgium!) for the long term.
Note: Avaaz is very careful about using photos of children, and the overall circumstances surrounding their depiction. We feel it's important for the world to see the horror of what's happening in Sudan -- but have chosen a photo that protects the child's identity. The image shows a two-year-old child, admitted to the severe malnutrition ward at the Al Buluk Hospital in Khartoum, April 2025. Credit: Giles Clarke/AvaazPS. This might be your first donation to our movement ever. But what a first donation! Did you know that Avaaz relies entirely on small donations from members like you? That's why we're fully independent, nimble and effective. Join the over 1 million people who've donated to make Avaaz a real force for good in the world.
