Introduced the Make Housing Affordable & Defend Democracy Act

While working families are struggling to afford a home or keep up with rent in Trump’s economy, Republicans included a $175 billion slush fund in the “One Big Beautiful Bill” to turn ICE and CBP into Trump’s own private national police force.

For me, this isn’t abstract, it’s personal. Los Angeles was the first major city Trump targeted with raids. I grew up in a working-class immigrant family. I’ve seen exactly how fear and instability hit families who are simply trying to build a better life.

That’s why I’ve been on the front lines pushing back against this abuse of power.

And it’s why this week I introduced the Make Housing Affordable & Defend Democracy Act, a bill that redirects that $175 billion slush fund into real housing solutions: renter support, down-payment assistance, a 21st century housing boom, and pathways to homeownership for families across the country.

With this bill, we choose housing over hate, affordability over authoritarianism, and practical solutions over politics.

Called Out Republicans for Their Reckless Tariff Scheme

I grew up watching my parents work multiple jobs just to keep the lights on, and I worked to put myself through school, so, when economic policies drive up prices, I know exactly who gets hit first.

The reality is that Trump’s reckless tariffs are driving up prices, hurting our economy, and squeezing working families dry. During a Ways and Means Committee hearing, the committee responsible for U.S. tax policy, I called out former Republican Chairman Kevin Brady, who once admitted that “tariffs are taxes that impede economic growth,” but now defends Trump’s latest tariff scheme.

Families can’t shoulder these rising costs alone, and I’m committed to pushing back against an administration that has sold out working people to protect the billionaire class.

Slammed Pete Hegseth for His Reckless Actions

From mishandling classified military strike plans that put our servicemembers at risk to authorizing unlawful actions in the Caribbean, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has shown from his first day on the job that he is not fit to lead the Pentagon.

He has failed our troops, failed our allies, and failed the American people. He is unfit to serve, and his actions warrant immediate accountability under the law.
