Fight for $15

**************************
John,

My name is Monica. I've worked at McDonald's restaurants in Florida for four years. This is what happened to me. I'm pretty sure it's happened to many others. And I'm asking for your help to put an end to the ongoing racial discrimination at McDonald's. [[link removed]]

It started when my restaurant got a new General Manager. Things started happening, like this:

A customer asked me for ketchup and jelly with their order, and the GM said, "It's always Black people who want free stuff."

When we promoted free meals to COVID-19 front-line workers, the GM only asked Black front-line workers for their employee badges and IDs.

Our GM said that Black people are "aggressive and trying to fight" and that "all they want to do is smoke weed." When I heard the GM say these things, I couldn't think. I couldn't concentrate. I felt like I couldn't breathe. I choked up.

And then I got mad. I spoke up. The GM responded by saying, "I am sorry if I offended you, but you know what I say is true." They really said that. It has to stop. [[link removed]]

It got even worse. I started seeing the GM treat Black customers differently than non-Black customers in too many ways to count. I noticed how the GM discriminated against me and other Black employees in big and small ways every day. And when my coworkers and I tried to speak up, McDonald's would try to silence Black voices with bad shifts, the worst duties, and negative performance reviews.

Worst of all, my hours were cut.

I'm a mom, and my kids and I have been forced to move out of our home. I've managed to get a second job to make ends meet, but it hasn't started yet.

If you're wondering why I didn't go above the GM's head, well, I did. Over and over. I called McDonald's corporate HR managers, filed complaints, and so did my co-workers. Nothing happened. They did nothing . That's right. They let this blatantly racist General Manager continue to harass me, other Black employees, and Black customers. It's disgusting.

And that's why I'm suing McDonald's. No one should have to put up with racist words and actions like me and my co-workers have. No one.

But, going against a massive company like McDonald's, we need your help. Please stand with us. It's 2020 and racism still exists at the 2nd largest private employer -- McDonald's.

Share my video on social media to support our lawsuit and let everyone know about our experience. [[link removed]]

Let McDonald's know that it's not just the three of us plaintiffs. It's millions. We see what they've done, what they're doing... and we're fighting back.

Thank you for reading this.

Sincerely,

Monica Scott
McDonald's worker and Mom

P.S. Situations like mine are also why Black McDonald's and other fast food workers are striking, speaking up, demanding to be treated with dignity and fairness, and for the right to join a union on Monday, July 20 as part of the Strike For Black Lives. [[link removed]]
