“Report: The more than 15K ways Trump, Republicans have attacked or erased
Black Americans”
—MassLive
Movement
family,
They wasted no time.
As soon as the Trump Administration took office, they launched an all-out,
wholesale assault on Black America. Anti-Blackness on steroids.
The attacks are quantifiable, and the results are unthinkable. Onyx
Impact’s comprehensive new Blackout Report details 15,723 specific ways
that the Trump Administration and its allies have harmed Black Americans,
including:
Mass layoffs: Over 306,000 Black women have been pushed out of the
workforce — after Trump’s mass federal firing frenzy, which has
disproportionately hit Black women civil servants, and his relentless
racist attacks on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Slashed funding: The Trump administration has cut or frozen over $3.4
billion in federal grants for health care, education, entrepreneurship,
and other initiatives that promote opportunity and equity for Black
families.
Data erasure: They’ve also removed over 6,000 federal datasets on issues
that affect Black communities and inform our policy response, including on
Black maternal morbidity and health conditions that disproportionately
impact the Black community.
Fewer jobs, diminished resources, less research — the consequences are not
abstract. Fewer breadwinners will be able to put food on the table. Fewer
Black students will be able to complete their education. More Black folks’
lives will be at risk.
This Administration’s cruelty has laid bare how policy dictates who lives
and dies, who survives and thrives. I’ve always believed that if they can
legislate hurt and harm, then we can and we must legislate equity,
healing, and justice too.
That’s why I’ve:
* Continued calling attention to the damning rise in Black women’s
unemployment and demanding action from the Federal Reserve to promote
maximum employment for all — including addressing this surging crisis
among Black women.
* Championed policies to help close the racial wealth gap, including
Baby Bonds and student debt cancellation.
* Fought to address the Black maternal morbidity crisis, introduced
legislation to create more inclusive public health policies, codify
racial equity across federal agencies, and improve government services
for underserved communities.
We can build a world where birthing while Black is an experience met with
support and celebration. A world where higher education opens doors, free
of debt. A world where we keep each other safe and Black men grow old. A
world where Black greatness is older than our oppression.
As long as the current occupant of the White House relentlessly attacks
Black America, I will match his energy in pursuit of true liberation.
