With election results officially certified, WSDC is pleased to confirm that all five Democrats who ran in special elections this year are headed back to the State Senate.

Despite an unprecedented number of races for an odd-year and heavy outside spending, our candidates won their races by record margins– showing that Washington has no appetite for Republicans pushing the Trump agenda.

In the 5th LD, Victoria Hunt secured 56.29% to Chad Magendanz’s 43.63%, despite more than $225,000 spent against her in the primary by Republican independent expenditures.

In the 26th LD, Deb Krishnadasan won 52.55% to Michelle Caldier’s 47.36% , the largest margin for a Democrat in this district since 2010, despite more than $1.75 million in spending from Republican independent expenditures and corporate interests.

In the 33rd LD, Tina Orwall ran unopposed and won 96.81% of the vote.

In the 34th LD, Emily Alvarado ran unopposed and won 98.08% of the vote.

In the 48th LD, Vandana Slatter won 57.97% of the vote to Amy Walen’s 40.7% despite more than $500,000 in outside spending, the result of a strong, community-focused campaign.

These record-breaking margins are a resounding endorsement by voters of Democrats’ work in the state legislature, and a clear message to Republicans that Washingtonians are not buying what they’re selling. They want affordable housing and healthcare, clean air and water, safeguarded reproductive rights, and safe communities– and these Democrats have delivered.
