I never want to watch Republicans win Michigan again -- ever.

I remember sitting on the couch with Bruce on the night of November 8, 2016, with Ballers on the TV screen and election results on my laptop. The polls were closed, and there wasn't anything else I could do to affect the results. I just had to watch. And wait.

When Democrats lost Michigan, and all those other swing states slid into the GOP column, what haunted me was the knowledge that for so many Americans, life was about to get a whole lot tougher. And it has.

But since 2016, we've also seen people get into this fight like never before. In 2018, we took back the House. In 2020, we're coming for the Senate and the White House. Michigan is on the front lines of that fight -- and Democrats have learned that we need to fight our hearts out there.

This November, we must re-elect my friend Senator Gary Peters in Michigan. He always puts working people first. But he's up against a well-funded GOP opponent, and Donald Trump would love nothing more than to get his hands on Michigan's electoral votes one more time.

Let me tell you about my friend Gary Peters.

He's not the kind of guy who makes a beeline to the cameras on Capitol Hill and hogs credit for every good idea from sliced bread to Social Security.

But he's the kind of guy who puts his head down and gets things done for working families in Michigan and across the country.

So I'll do the bragging for him. He's poured his heart into the fight to protect the Great Lakes, defend protections for people with pre-existing conditions, lower prescription drug costs, and expand quality, affordable health care.

He's a fifth-generation Michigander who's served our country in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and he'll keep making us proud in the U.S. Senate. Bonus fun fact: He co-founded the Senate Motorcycle Caucus. Let's keep him at the wheel and in this fight to make our country work for working people.

But he's up against a real challenge this year. Donald Trump's allies and Betsy DeVos' family are dumping millions of dollars into Michigan -- so we need to fight by his side.

Control of the Senate is on the line, and by investing in Gary Peters, you'll help lift up the entire Democratic ticket in Michigan -- from Joe Biden to the state house to local leaders.
