FL-27 Newsletter

Vol. 119, Issue #30

Dear Friends / Estimados Amigos,

It’s been a busy week in the House of Representatives, and I’ve been working tirelessly to deliver results for the people of District 27.

We’ve made great progress on our Dignity Act, securing more congressional sponsors, and we continue pushing to fix our deeply broken immigration system. I’m also working to secure a two-year extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies to ensure my constituents have access to the healthcare they need. Below, you can find more information on the other important legislation I’m supporting to protect families, expand economic opportunity, and strengthen our communities.

My priorities remain clear: real immigration reform, lowering costs, including healthcare, and standing up to communism at home and abroad.

My offices are open and ready to assist you and your family with any federal matters.

Finally, I want to send warm holiday wishes from Washington, D.C., to all of you in District 27. May God bless you and your loved ones this holiday season!

Sincerely / Atentamente,

María E. Salazar

U.S. Representative (FL-27)

How am I doing as your congresswoman?

The Dignity Act Gains Momentum And Secures New Congressional Endorsements

This week, the DIGNITY Act of 2025 reached an encouraging milestone, we’ve now gained more than 25 cosponsors and over 50 endorsements from across the country. I’m grateful for every colleague who believes, as I do, that compassionate and realistic immigration reform cannot wait any longer.

We welcomed six new cosponsors this week: Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA-11), Rep. Patrick Ryan (D-NY-18), Rep. Kimberlyn King-Hinds (R-NMI), Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV-1), Rep. James Moylan (R-Guam), and Rep. Emilia Sykes (D-OH-13). I’m thankful for their partnership.

The momentum is real. And it matters. Every day Congress delays, families, workers, and employers feel the strain. Our economy relies on millions of long-term immigrants who want to fully contribute but are stuck in a system that no longer works for anyone. We can’t keep kicking this can down the road. The time for excuses is over and the time for the DIGNITY Act is now.

You can read more about the new co-sponsors here.

Launching CommonGround 2025: A Bipartisan Plan to Lower Health Insurance Costs

I’m proud to join a bipartisan group of 35 House Members, led by Reps. Josh Gottheimer and Jen Kiggans, to introduce CommonGround 2025, a new health care framework focused on protecting affordable coverage for hardworking American families.

This plan includes a two-year extension of enhanced Premium Tax Credits (ePTCs) with a targeted updates. The goal is straightforward: keep families from losing their coverage or being hit with sudden, unaffordable cost increases while Congress works on long-term solutions.

In Miami, this matters deeply. More than 230,000 people, nearly one-third of my district, rely on ACA credits to access the health care they need. I hear from these families every day, and I’m committed to keeping their coverage stable, predictable, and affordable.

Along with this framework, we’ve also signed a letter asking House and Senate leadership to meet with us so we can move this effort forward together.

Celebrating Soccer’s Power to Unite as Miami Prepares for the World Cup

This week, I had the privilege of joining a World Cup roundtable hosted by The Washington Post. Thank you for having me, it was such a fun and thoughtful conversation.

There’s something magical about soccer: in just 90 minutes, it brings people together across borders, politics, and differences. If only Congress worked that smoothly!

As the Congresswoman for Miami, the home to the most fútbol-passionate community in the country, I couldn’t be prouder that our city will soon host the World Cup. I can’t wait to welcome fans from around the world to our incredible city!

Legislative Highlights

This week was a busy one in the House of Representatives, where I worked on legislation that will make a real difference for my constituents in Miami.

  • The Mikaela Naylon Give Kids A Chance Act unanimously passed the House, and I’m proud to be a cosponsor. This bill will accelerate treatments for children with cancer, expand access to life-saving therapies for kids with rare diseases, and strengthen the research families have been asking for.

  • I also proudly supported the SCORE Act, which establishes a national standard for student-athlete NIL rights. This legislation creates fairness, for athletes, protects the academic and medical support they rely on, and gives them the clarity they deserve.

  • As co-lead of the FIREWALL Act, I’m advancing protections for working families before disaster strikes. By providing a refundable federal tax credit to upgrade roofs, barriers, vents, and other safety measures, this law could mean the difference between a home surviving a storm or not. Across the country, families will be safer from fires, floods, and other natural disasters, because smart mitigation today saves lives and lowers costs tomorrow.

IN THE MEDIA: SPEAKING UP FOR SOUTH FLORIDA

This week, I joined CNN, Fox & Friends, the New York Post, the Washington Post and others to discuss my Dignity Act, the ongoing fight for freedom in Cuba and Venezuela, the FIFA World Cup coming to Miami, and other key issues impacting District 27.

I’ll keep speaking up for South Florida families and defending our values, faith, freedom, and opportunity on every platform where our voice can make a difference.

This week, we wrapped up our Congressional App Challenge Reception at our District Office!

The amazing students of FL-27 submitted incredible proposals, and I’m pleased to announce Michael Guan from Miami Palmetto Senior High School and his app, DiaMetrics, as the winner of this year’s Congressional App Challenge!

Thank you to every student who put their ideas into the ring. The talent on display this year was inspiring, Miami’s future is bright!
