A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
|
|
| This week, I heard from Rhode Islanders about their health care struggles during open enrollment on a telephone town hall. Their worries are taking place amid the disastrous health care crisis created by President Donald Trump's disastrous policies being pushed by Republicans in Washington. |
| |
I was joined by HealthSource RI Director Lindsay Lang and members of her dedicated team who are working around the clock to help Rhode Islanders answer questions and select options for their health insurance coverage.
|
| |
|
Republican policies in their Big, Ugly Law cut more than $1 trillion from our health care system. They are now allowing the tax credits that help 22 million Americans afford care to expire. These policies are forcing Rhode Islanders, no matter where we get our care, to make impossible choices between seeing the doctor and making ends meet.

Congressman Amo answers questions from Rhode Islanders at his Tuesday town hall.
|
|
|
| During our telephone town hall, Rhode Islanders shared their anxieties about the rising cost of health care due to Republican policies, including a couple who will see a 500% increase in their health care costs — from around $300 per month to over $1,700. |
| |
| Since Speaker Mike Johnson has not brought legislation to the floor to avert this health care crisis, House Democrats introduced a discharge petition to circumvent him and extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits for three years. Every single Democrat has signed this petition, and only four Republicans are needed to bring this legislation to the floor. So far, no Republicans have signed the petition. |
|
|
| It doesn’t have to be this way. Congress must address the health care price hike caused by Republican policies, extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, and finally protect Americans' wallets. |
|
|
| I'm going to keep up the fight in Washington to make it easier for Rhode Islanders to access reliable, affordable health care. If you are struggling with the health care hike due to Republican policies, please call my Providence office at (401) 729-5600 or visit HealthSource RI's website for more information. |
| |
| Sincerely, |
 |

| Should Republicans extend the policies that lower health costs for Americans? |

Thanks to the hard work of the Warren Holiday Festival Committee, I kicked off the season at the Main Street Light Ceremony.
It was wonderful to speak with so many Rhode Islanders getting into the holiday spirit!

Great to drop by the West End of Providence for Black Market Place Rhode Island’s 6th Annual Holiday Bazaar for food, music, and holiday gifts.
I spoke with local businesses about what Congress can do to help them thrive.

It is officially Christmas time on Federal Hill now that the DePasquale Plaza tree is lit!
Always a pleasure to speak with Rhode Islanders about how I am working in Congress to make this holiday season more affordable.
Thank you to the Federal Hill Commerce Association and all the performers who helped ring in the holiday season.

Got to see the work of some of our area’s talented artisans at Waterfire Arts Center on Small Business Saturday!
Really appreciated speaking with local makers about my work in Congress and checking out their Rhode Island-based creations.

Congratulations to Rhode Island’s own Flux Marine co-founder, Jonathan Lord, on making the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
I got to see his Blue Economy leadership first-hand, testing their electric outbound motor in Bristol Harbor last year to inform my work in Congress.

| Recognizing Dave Chenevert’s Decades of Manufacturing Leadership |
| |
 |
| CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Amo honors the work of David Chenevert, the retiring Executive Director for the Rhode Island Manufacturers Association. |
| |
| This week, I spoke on the House floor to recognize the contributions of Rhode Island Manufacturers Association (RIMA) Executive Director David Chenevert. David is retiring after more than a decade leading our state’s manufacturing into the 21st century. |
| |
| For more than 40 years, David has worked tirelessly to strengthen Rhode Island’s manufacturing sector, first developing a successful company providing precision components for multiple markets, and then leading our state’s manufacturing advocacy organization. |
| |
| During his tenure at RIMA, he championed workforce development and education, encouraged students to pursue manufacturing, and helped small businesses transition to the next generation. At the height of COVID, he helped the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation create the “Pledge Program” to deliver personal protective equipment to manufacturers so they could remain open and operate safely. |
| |
| David’s hard work and strategic vision has left an indelible impact on our state and helped ensure the state that ushered in the Industrial Revolution, at Slater’s Mill, continues to build and make the future. |
| |
 |
 |
| |
| Whether you know him as the Grim Reaper or the Shadow President, Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought's policies are flouting the law, withholding Congressionally approved federal funding, and inflicting economic harm on the American people. |
| |
| In the House Budget Committee, I called out Republican policies tipping the scales in favor of billionaires and big corporations. I am laser-focused on reducing the cost of living for Rhode Islanders. |

| Countering Trump's Policies in the Courts |
| |
| The Trump administration's policies are being challenged and overturned in court. Americans have filed over 500 lawsuits against the administration, and judges have partially or fully blocked over 149 of Trump's executive actions. |
| |
| Recent Courtroom Wins: |
| |
| ✅ FEDERAL APPEALS COURT DISQUALIFIES TRUMP PROSECUTOR — A federal appeals court panel upheld a previous order disqualifying Alina Habba, Trump's pick for U.S. Attorney in New Jersey. |
| |
| ✅ ASYLUM SEEKER RELEASED — A federal judge order the immediate release of an asylum seeker being detained indefinitely in Colorado. |
| |
| ✅ APPEALS COURT SIDES WITH WORKERS — In a win for workers and organized labor, a three-judge panel ruled that federal courts do not have the jurisdiction to issue injunctions against the National Labor Relations Board in labor disputes. The ruling sides with 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, preventing an employer from refusing to negotiate. |

| ICYMI: Marlene's Story |
| |
 |
| CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Amo talks with Marlene, who will see her health care costs rise by $600 per month under the Republican policy plan. |
| |
| Republicans have put forward policies that gut the Affordable Care Act for over the past 15 years, and yet they still have not introduced a plan to make health care affordable and accessible for millions of Americans. |
| |
| If Trump and Republicans do not agree to legislation that would extend the tax credits that 22 million Americans rely on to afford care, Rhode Islanders like Marlene will see their costs skyrocket. |
| |
| I sat down with her to hear her story. |
