*Governor Gordon Underscores Importance of Economic Development Efforts in Wyoming*
"“Economic development is truly economic growth. Wyoming’s government must foster an environment where individuals who create and build businesses can flourish.”"
*CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Dec. 5, 2025* -Governor Mark Gordon (R-WY) today reiterates his support for Wyoming’s continued economic growth and the tools needed to be competitive. Governor Gordon has repeatedly said one of his main focuses is to help create and nurture a climate that expands Wyoming’s economy.
Throughout Wyoming’s history, state and local governments in partnership with individuals and private industries created innovative ways to say yes to our core industries and for economic growth. Several state agencies, such as the Wyoming Business Council [ [link removed] ], Wyoming Energy Authority [ [link removed] ], University of Wyoming, School of Energy Resources, [ [link removed] ] and Wyoming Community Development Association [ [link removed] ], with support and assistance from past legislatures, coordinate efforts to provide appropriate incentives to support and attract economic expansion in Wyoming. Wyoming must be able to compete with 49 other states to maintain and bring jobs to our citizens.
In his budget message [ [link removed] ] the Governor said, “Economic development is truly economic growth. Wyoming’s government must foster an environment where individuals who create and build businesses can flourish. We must create a business-friendly climate by maintaining low tax burdens and pursuing legal frameworks that attract new investment to broaden Wyoming's economic base.”
As a fiscal conservative, the Governor has had to make hard decisions each time he has gone through the long and concise budget review process with state agencies. As many may be aware, the Governor is responsible for submitting a balanced budget recommendation for the Legislature’s consideration. Not every request from every agency is approved by the Governor. Every request submitted to the Legislature has his full and complete support.
The budget requests from agencies [ [link removed] ] and the Governor’s recommendations are published and available to the Legislature and the public.
“The Legislature has the ability to add to the budget, since they are not under the same statutory limitations as I am,” Governor Gordon said.
The Joint Appropriations Committee and the Legislature have often restored cuts to agency requests when they felt the increases were needed. Governor Gordon’s budget has close to half a billion dollars on the table for the Legislature to make such decisions, including putting more into savings to benefit future generations
Governor Gordon made it clear in his budget message [ [link removed] ] his support for growing Wyoming’s economy when he said," “Economic growth also includes pursuing new opportunities, the foundation of which have been years in the making. In concert with the current federal administration, my administration has made tremendous strides in creating new opportunities for the development and distribution of oil, natural gas, coal, trona, critical rare earth minerals and uranium to domestic and Asian markets. "
"We have an unprecedented opportunity not only to participate, but to lead in making America the energy and technology superpower, if we have the courage and vision to seize the moment. That is why my budget supports the investments in the resources needed to develop trade agreements, continue research, and incentivize innovation and entrepreneurial advancements at the Wyoming Energy Authority, the Wyoming Business Council, the School of Energy Resources, and the University of Wyoming.”"
