Dear Friend,
I wanted to provide an update on the work I am doing in the House of Representatives to represent the great people of Maryland's First Congressional District and to advance commonsense, conservative legislation in Washington, D.C.
Cutting Red Tape for Maryland’s Small Businesses
This week, the House passed the Small Business Regulatory Reduction Act to help protect small businesses from costly new federal rules. Under the bill, the Small Business Administration cannot impose a new rule that raises costs unless it removes an existing rule of equal or greater cost, preventing additional strain on local employers. For Maryland’s First District, this means less red tape and more room for small businesses to grow. It’s a commonsense step toward strengthening our small-business economy.
Protecting Classrooms from Chinese Government Influence
This week, I voted in strong support of the PROTECT Our Kids Act, a bill aimed at keeping our classrooms free from Chinese foreign influence. The legislation ensures that federal education dollars aren’t directed to any K–12 school that partners with or receives support from the Chinese government, including programs like Confucius Classrooms. This protects families, teachers, and students in Maryland’s First District by blocking federal dollars from any school connected to Chinese Communist Party–supported programs and keeping foreign influence out of our classrooms.
Celebrating the Opening of Cambridge’s New Zaxby’s
It was great to join local leaders and residents in Cambridge for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Zaxby’s restaurant off Ocean Gateway. I’m excited to see the new jobs and opportunities this will bring to the city of Cambridge and Dorchester County. The expansion of new businesses across Maryland’s First District shows economic growth and the increasing investment across our communities.
Fox Business: Healthcare showdown intensifies as GOP calls for free-market reform over new subsidies
I joined Mornings with Maria on Fox Business to explain why expanding Obamacare subsidies would take our healthcare system even further off course. These subsidies only prop up a failing program and drive costs even higher. Washington’s overspending is a major reason familes are paying more, and I believe we need real free-market reforms that lower prices and give families more choices, not federal mandates.
