SNAP is our most effective anti-hunger program. It also plays a crucial role in reducing poverty and improving health, economic, and education outcomes.

But when Republicans passed their Big Brutal Budget last summer, they included the largest cut to SNAP in the program’s history―$187 billion over ten years.

Now we have a chance to fight back and restore vital food assistance. Democrats just introduced a bill, the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act of 2025, that will reverse the GOP’s SNAP cuts.1

Republicans’ SNAP cuts will impose harsher time limits on benefits for huge numbers of people, including veterans, older adults, people with disabilities, and families with older children. The GOP is also forcing states to take on more of the costs of administering SNAP and, for the first time, requiring states to pay a share of the cost of SNAP benefits.

The long government shutdown showed us how painful it is when families are denied SNAP. We cannot allow the GOP’s SNAP cuts to continue.
