By this point, you’ve seen the special election results in Tennessee’s 7th District. At Groundwork PAC, we know that winning is sometimes about losing by less .

Yes, we have big plans to help flip seats from Oklahoma to West Virginia. But we know that's a long-term play. Real power isn't built overnight. It takes time, patience, consistency, sustained investment and faith .

So we don't measure success in our states by whether a candidate gets the check mark next to their name on cable news once the polls close. We measure success by whether the needle was moved towards a more just, equitable and democratic future.

Every single county in Tennessee’s 7th District moved to the left — Aftyn Behn lost by single digits in a district Trump won by 22 points. This is an incredible feat, and tells us that similar districts across America pose new opportunities in 2026.

This is possible because local organizers in Tennessee have been grinding for years building year-round progressive organizing infrastructure to support candidates and campaigns like Aftyn’s — knocking 100,000 doors and making 100,000 calls in this race alone.

We'll be keeping our eye on Tennessee next year. And Mississippi. And Kentucky. And Nebraska. For all of you who followed Aftyn and her campaign these past few weeks, we're asking you to stay in the fight, too.

Her campaign showed Tennessee, and the country, that it is worth investing in Democratic campaigns in Republican-dominated states . States like Tennessee are going to change the game for Democrats in the years ahead; but only if we continue to have their back.

These places aren’t lost causes, they are major opportunity zones.
