Local Philanthropy Tackles the Pandemic
Recent COVID-19 Response Fund grants, the All In WA campaign, and A Concert for COVID-19 Relief
As needs keep mounting across our community, Seattle Foundation continues to mobilize resources for workers and families who have been hardest hit by the pandemic. In June, the COVID-19 Response Fund deployed $9.2 million to 220 nonprofits and coalitions focused on childcare, mental and behavior health, and emergency financial assistance. The Fund has made more than 360 grants so far, totaling $20.2 million, with more than 5,000 donors contributing to date. Grantees are delivering a wide array of powerful services throughout the region, such as the free food event organized by Somali Parents Education Board and Tukwila Children’s Foundation during Ramadan or the culturally relevant mental health supports provided to communities of color by You Grow Girl!, Mother Africa, WAPI Community Services, and Consejo Counseling & Referral Service, among others.
Last month also saw the launch of All In WA, a statewide relief effort powered by a broad coalition of partners, including Seattle Foundation. All In WA drives giving to more than 60 funds dedicated to different causes and communities across Washington, raising more than $55 million and counting so far from businesses, philanthropies, and individuals. On June 24, All In WA: A Concert for COVID-19 Relief helped raise funds with a virtual show featuring moving performances by beloved Washington artists, along with stories of workers on the frontlines, and appearances by local leaders and athletes. Black Lives Matter
Racism, systemic inequities, and white supremacy have persisted in the United States for generations upon generations. They will continue to persist if we don’t look deeply in our hearts and examine what needs to be done differently moving forward. Philanthropy must act now, and listen intensely.

Black Future Co-op Fund
Created by four Black women leaders, the new Black Future Co-op Fund acknowledges the harm systemic racism has done to the Black community in Washington state, and serves as a hub for efforts to eradicate poverty, build generational wealth, preserve Black Culture, and celebrate resilience. It will invest in areas such as health, housing, education, art, criminal justice reform, and civic engagement.

2020 Medical Fund Grants
Each year, these grants support research equipment purchases and the healthcare needs of low-income children. The seven grantees in 2020 include Seattle Children's Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, which is purchasing technology, such as tablets and laptops, to enable telemedicine while families are unable to be physically present for appointments.
