The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) attempts to infiltrate and manipulate America’s education system pose a serious threat to the entire nation. Here’s what many may not know: the CCP isn’t just infiltrating America’s colleges and universities – they’re also targeting classrooms from kindergarten to high school. Again, this is a serious threat being posed to the entire nation. This week, I helped advance three separate pieces of legislation through the Rules Committee to halt the CCP in its tracks, and to help protect America’s classrooms from undue foreign influence.

When adversaries like the CCP secure a foothold in American schools, American values, interests, and our way of life are all undermined. The following three pieces of legislation are our answers to combat this threat:

H.R. 1069, the Promoting Responsible Oversight to Eliminate Communist Teaching for (PROTECT) Our Kids Act, combats foreign interference by prohibiting federal education funds from being given to any school that receives CCP funding.

H.R. 1005, the Combating the Lies of Authoritarians in School Systems (CLASS) Act, ensures transparency by requiring schools to disclose the source of any foreign funding above a nominal threshold as a condition of receiving federal funds.

H.R. 1049, the Transparency in Reporting of Adversarial Contributions to Education (TRACE) Act, empowers parents by giving them the right to know about foreign influences in their child’s public school, including the ability to review and copy classroom and professional development materials funded by foreign governments and foreign entities of concern.

I was proud to vote in favor of all three of these bills when they came to the House floor for a full vote. American schools should teach American values – not the propaganda of America’s adversaries. Rest assured that I’ll continue to speak out on this issue and stand firm in defense of protecting our nation’s interests.

Our State Leads

New data from the U.S. Census Bureau reveals that North Carolina is one of the top five states in the nation for homeschooling. In total, more than 10% of students in our state are homeschooled which equates to over 400,000 children. Options such as homeschooling – alongside charter schools and magnet schools – have created new opportunities for many families across the state. This new ranking confirms that school choice is alive and well within our state, and it’s a testament to the power of choice in determining what educational opportunities meet the needs of families.

A Piece of American History

On October 25, 1774, Penelope Barker, a local resident of Edenton, North Carolina, organized a gathering of over 50 women who signed a document known as the “Edenton Resolves”. This was one of the earliest documented forms of political actions both written and organized by a group of women within the colonies in America. The purpose of this document was to support the first North Carolina Provincial Congress’ move to boycott goods originated in Britain and to stand firm against “taxation without representation”.

Quote of The Week

"Communism is a religion that is inspired, directed and motivated by the Devil himself who has declared war against Almighty God.”
