Dear USO Supporter,

In two short days, it will be the 84th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. This is still one of the deadliest attacks on American soil and a day that will live in infamy. It holds a significant place not only in our nation’s history, but also the world’s and the USO’s.

On that day, the local USO organization, which had only formed earlier that year, was there with volunteers rushing to the scene to serve victims and their families.

This paved the way for USO Hawaii’s evolution from an organization that provided entertainment in community centers to one that hosted more than six million service members in 1945, helping them in a time of true crisis. That growth was seen across the country as the USO raced to meet the needs of wartime America.

The USO’s long and storied history cannot be separated from the dark day of December 7, 1941, or the heroes in Hawaii who stepped up when it mattered most.
