John,
We know that music has always powered movements — from classic anti-war
anthems like Fortunate Son to powerful manifestos of resistance like Fight
the Power — these kinds of songs have gotten so many through the craziest
of times.
So we want to know…what song(s) have gotten you through these hard times?
If there is an album, artist, or hit single that has given you hope, lit a
fire within you, or brought you peace this year — we want to hear all
about it. Reply to this email and we’ll feature it on our [ [link removed] ]Soundtrack
for Change playlist on YouTube.
I’ll go first: Hayley Williams’ song True Believer has carried me through
the later-half of 2025. True Believer is a critique of the racism,
hypocrisy, and commodification of her home state of Tennessee — it
confronts the contradictions of a religion that has been used to justify
racial violence and oppression, while also questioning institutions that
prioritize profit over people. It’s just so timely and captivating.
Hit reply and tell us what you’ve been blasting through your speakers this
year, or better yet, send along the Youtube link to your favorite anthem
and we'll add it the our growing list.
Let’s make this movement sound as powerful as it feels.
