Texas Values Protects Your Right to say "Merry Christmas"!

The Merry Christmas Texas project empowers public schools and individuals to use their constitutional rights to freely acknowledge and educate students about Christmas.

In 2013, Texas Values led the efforts to pass the Merry Christmas Law (H.B. 308) to protect the religious liberty of children, parents, teachers, and school staff to acknowledge Christmas without fear of censorship, persecution, or litigation. The Merry Christmas Texas project was launched shortly after to continue to spread awareness on this First Amendment right.

View and share this PDF of the law guaranteeing the First Amendment freedom of our children, teachers, parents, and school administrators to acknowledge Christmas on school grounds without fear of censorship, persecution or litigation!

Texas Values held a Press Conference in Houston yesterday, watch it here.

The Texas Women’s Privacy Act, SB 8, went into effect yesterday, Thursday, December 4. Texas will finally have a law that gives clear guidelines to protect women in their private spaces like locker rooms, showers, bathrooms, domestic violence shelters, and prisons. The Texas Women’s Privacy Act, authored by Senator Mayes Middleton, passed in September during the 2nd Special Session with bipartisan support. Texas will be the 20th state in the nation to have a law that protects the privacy of women and girls.

Riley Gaines, 12x NCAA Champion & Save Women’s Sports Leader had this to say:
"The Texas Women’s Privacy Act is a decisive victory for women and girls. It reaffirms a basic truth: that privacy, dignity, and safety matter. Texans made it clear that sex-specific spaces exist for a reason, and today the state took an important step to preserve those protections. Thank you Texas Values, the legislature, and Governor Abbott!"

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said:
“The message is clear: You don’t mess with Texas women in their private spaces! This week, Texas will make women’s history. Our state can finally enforce a law that will make sure women and girls will not be forced to share their lockers rooms, showers, and private spaces with biological men. We expect government entities like the 1,200 school districts in Texas and public universities to fully comply with the law and make certain that no existing policies conflict with the Texas Women’s Privacy Act.”

Also taking effect yesterday is the Women and Child Protection Act, HB 7, which is a pro-life law that seeks to stop the spread of lethal chemical abortion pills in the state of Texas.

Congratulations to the Newest Member of the U. S. Supreme Court Bar!

Jonathan Saenz, President & Attorney for Texas Values was sworn in as an official member of the US Supreme Court Bar today. All licensed attorneys in Texas are able to practice law in state court, but to be a lead attorney for cases at the U. S. Supreme Court, the highest court of the United States, requires a separate admissions process.

Jonathan Saenz was nominated for the U. S. Supreme Court bar by Texas Values board member and First Liberty Institute President and Chief Counsel Kelly Shackelford who also serves on the Presidential Religious Liberty Commission.

Jonathan was present at the U. S. Supreme Court Wednesday, as First Liberty Institute presented oral arguments for its client on a religious freedom case involving constitutional rights of a street preacher from Mississippi.

Texas Values frequently files 'friend of the court' (amicus briefs) at the United States Supreme Court and Jonathan will be back in the courtroom along with our team in January 2026 when the court hears arguments for a case involving a Save Women's Sports law.

Texas School District Bans Ten Commandments; AG Sues in Court!

The Texas Attorney General's office has taken official action against two school districts who have banned the Ten Commandments from their schools. Texas Ten Commandments Law requires the display of the Ten Commandments in public schools. This new law was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott this past legislative session and went into effect September 1, 2025 but 11 school districts received an injunction from a federal district court to hold off on posting the Ten Commandments in classrooms until the resolution of litigation.

“Singling out and banning the Ten Commandments is a bad look for Round Rock ISD, Leander ISD and any other school district in Texas and it’s also illegal. If these rogue and woke school districts thought we were just going to turn the other cheek on this issue, they found out today that they’re wrong.” - Jonathan Saenz, President & Attorney for Texas Values.

Unfortunately, a handful of Texas school districts will have to remove their Ten Commandments posters due to a federal judge's ruling.

Oral arguments are set for next month January, 2026. In practical terms, this means that Texas’s law to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms is not stalled or in limbo where school districts can ignore or delay implementation.
