John,
I arrived in Congress in 2019, the youngest black woman ever elected to the House. I made a lot of history that year: the first person of color, first woman, and first millennial elected to represent Illinois' 14th district. And to do it, I beat a four-term Republican incumbent.
In 2022, I was elected to serve in House Leadership by my colleagues as Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. Those are huge accomplishments, which I’ve built on by getting 19 major pieces of legislation signed into law, delivering real progress on health care, veterans’ services, homeland security, and more.
And I’m proud of all of those things, but most of all I’m proud to represent the next generation of leaders, the ones who will bring actual change to Washington, who fight for what's right.
That means bringing my experience as a registered nurse, public health expert, and a woman with a pre-existing heart condition to the fight for affordable and inclusive health care — including reproductive health care and abortion.
It means treating gun violence like the public health epidemic it is, and finding data-driven, evidence-based solutions.
It means holding the Trump administration accountable and conducting real oversight, particularly when it comes to the actions of ICE as they terrorize communities around the country, just like they’ve done in Illinois.
There’s so much work for us to do, and I’m proud to represent the next generation of leaders who are committed to that work. But I need your help to keep this job, to keep fighting for you.
Can you chip in $5 or $10 to help keep me in Congress?
