We have bad news and good news.

❌ The bad news is that our powerhouse candidate, Aftyn Behn, lost her special election on Tuesday.

This is especially painful because TN ranks among the bottom in the nation for maternal health outcomes, and women in TN are living under a near-total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest.

This district will soon be represented by Matt Van Epps, a Trump-endorsed Republican who said he would “100% have the President’s back” if elected to Congress. Just what we need. 🙄

✅ The good news is that this Republican victory in a historically deep red district was won by a notably small margin. 😏

Voters in the deepest red pockets of America are making their voices heard. They are excited about a pro-choice champion, a pro-WOMAN warrior, and a fearless critic of the old boys’ club in Southern states.

Here’s the deal: At Her Bold Move, we are proud to take a chance on incredible candidates, even when they are running in red states against well-funded, Trump-endorsed, anti-choice, and often independently wealthy men. We stand by the classic underdogs – and it’s paying off!

In 2025, our win rate was 98%. The year before that? 44% of our WINS came out of RED STATES.

We design our programs to support women candidates running in the toughest races in the country. And even though we’re often the only national organization investing in those races, we couldn’t be prouder. We believe that ALL women, regardless of WHERE they live, deserve real and true representation.
