Tax experts warn that determining what counts as pornography could require auditors to review creators’ content and make subjective judgments, adding to an already hostile financial landscape for adult workers. Advocates say the rule reflects a broader conservative push to marginalize the industry and could foreshadow more aggressive federal actions against legal adult content. Read more on NY Times... The Age-Gated Internet Is Sweeping The US. Activists Are Fighting Back.
Half of US states now require age verification to access porn or other “harmful” content, pushing the country toward an increasingly age-gated internet. Digital rights groups warn these laws will force people to hand over IDs or submit to facial scans, exposing users to surveillance, data breaches, and censorship. As Congress weighs a wave of new online safety bills, activists warn that age-gating will make the internet less safe while offering no real solutions for protecting kids. Read more on Wired... NoFap Founder Sues Aylo, UCLA, Scientists & Academic Publisher
NoFap founder Alexander Rhodes has filed a sprawling lawsuit in Pennsylvania accusing Aylo, UCLA, two researchers, and academic publisher Taylor & Francis of conspiring to defame him and damage his company. The complaint claims a years-long effort to link NoFap and its followers to extremism and pseudoscience- allegations rooted in peer-reviewed research showing NoFap’s methods are ineffective and that pornography is not an addiction. Rhodes is seeking apologies, retractions, and gag orders, while many journalists and scientists named in the filing say the suit targets legitimate criticism and research rather than any coordinated campaign.
