The Republicans in the Maine state legislature have decided that cheap political stunts are more important than the lives of Mainers during a pandemic. They are refusing to cooperate in an effort to call a special session of the legislature to enhance Maine’s response to the COVID-19 crisis.

This is reckless, this is wrong, and this is why we must fight to elect Democrats.

Under the Maine Constitution, the Legislature can be called back to work after obtaining consent from a majority of each party caucus. Speaker Sara Gideon and Senate President Troy Jackson put out that call, and it was answered by all Democratic, Independent, and Tribal members of the Legislature. But 67 Republicans refused to answer the call.

In this time of state and national crisis, Republicans in the state legislature are more concerned with scoring cheap political points than protecting their constituents' lives. They are blocking the Legislature from addressing hardships in childcare and education, housing insecurity, and the loss of employment, and much more. This is unacceptable.

Republicans cannot be trusted to lead in Maine, and they cannot be trusted to lead the nation. If you agree, lean in with everything you have to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot. [ [link removed] ]
