It turns out Congress can be pushed to care about what you think.
Americans have [ [link removed] ]made clear that we don't support the killing of people
on fishing boats without due process. And now, Congress is finally
starting to take action.
[ [link removed] ]Tell Congress to Keep Investigating
Recent [ [link removed] ]reporting says Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth gave an order during a
Caribbean boat strike to kill everyone on board — leading to a second
strike to kill survivors clinging to the wreckage. This is cruel,
unnecessary, and almost certainly a crime.
Military law experts warn that even in wartime, killing people who are no
longer a threat would be a war crime. The administration has given
[ [link removed] ]conflicting details about what actually happened that day, and who gave
what orders.
But even more importantly: the U.S. is not at war.
It's illegal to kill people just because the government claims they are
trafficking drugs. So there's [ [link removed] ]real doubt about whether ANY of the
strikes that have so far led to around 80 killings are lawful.
The [ [link removed] ]congressional committees overseeing the military are launching
investigations, and [ [link removed] ]members of Congress from BOTH parties are speaking
out against the actions.
But we know Congress needs to hear from us to follow through with these
investigations. Tell Congress you want them to [ [link removed] ]investigate not only
this incident, but the legal and factual basis for the entire program of
strikes in the Caribbean.
