Yesterday, during the December 3 broadcast of Fox News, Secretary Marco Rubio claimed that “the overwhelming majority” of domestic terrorist attacks in the United States are inspired by “radical Islamic viewpoints.” These comments not only misrepresent federal data, but they also mirror a broader pattern of rising Islamophobic rhetoric that places our community at increased risk.
At a moment when American Muslims continue to face heightened hostility and discrimination, statements like these, especially from national leaders, create real harm. They distort public understanding, fuel prejudice, and undermine the safety and dignity of millions of Americans.

We are sending a formal letter to Secretary Rubio requesting clarification, sharing the data from the FBI and DHS, and urging the use of accurate and responsible language when discussing issues of national security. Our message remains clear and principled: violence has no religion, and scapegoating only pushes our country backward.
