Big Runoff Victories for Pro-Life, Pro-Family Candidates Set Stage for November The Texas Primary Election season has finally drawn to a close after Tuesday’s runoff elections. Originally scheduled for May 19th, the runoffs were delayed by Governor Greg Abbott because of COVID-19. Faith and family voters were not deterred though and showed up to vote and pushed many strong candidates endorsed by Texas Values Action across the finish line, setting up a stark contrast for this November. In one of the most watched races in the Texas House, Texas Values Action endorsed Carrie Isaac defeated Bud Wymore for the Republican nomination and earned the right to unseat radical Leftist Erin Zwiener (0% on the Faith and Family Scorecard), the incumbent State Representative. In a critically important State Board of Education race, Texas Values Action endorsed Lani Popp won a landslide victory ensuring that Republicans will have a strong opportunity to hold onto this seat, which Democrats are determined to flip in November. In other important State House races, Texas Values Action endorsed candidates Shelby Slawson (HD 59) and Cody Vasut (HD 25) also both won their runoffs. Shelby Slawson handily defeated moderate incumbent State Rep. J.D. Sheffield, who has a history of being one of the lowest scoring Republicans on our Faith & Family legislative scorecard. |
