Email from Judy Chu After a 40+ day shutdown and a 54-day recess in the House, I was fired up to return to Washington last month and get to work in Congress.   Dear John, After a 40+ day shutdown and a 54-day recess in the House, I was fired up to return to Washington last month and get to work in Congress. I proudly voted NO on the GOP’s funding bill that does nothing to address the worsening healthcare crisis in this country. I won’t give in when the GOP refuses to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies. Then, I voted YES on releasing the Epstein files, because the American people deserve answers and transparency in their government. In addition to these votes, I introduced three bills in the House. I sponsored the COACH Act, which would provide resources to small childcare providers to help us begin to fill the access gap across the country. I also introduced the John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act to increase access to adoption resources for same-sex couples and the Increasing Access to Mental Health in Schools Act to ensure there are more mental health professionals in our schools. Finally, in our district, I visited centers and businesses across CA-28 to hear from my community and celebrate their wins. Marking almost 11 months since the Eaton fire, I attended the grand reopening of five Altadena small businesses that were damaged in the wildfires and stopped by the Altadena Recovery Hub to learn more about how to support our community while we continue rebuilding. With the shutdown dragging on last month, SNAP benefits were greatly disrupted, and healthcare premiums are still on the rise. That’s why I went to discuss the potential Affordable Care Act cuts with the Young and Healthy group in Pasadena—and then attended the Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena’s “food is medicine” pop-up to discuss the disastrous cuts to food assistance. After being in my district last month, hearing from constituents, I was even more eager to return to Washington to work for Californians in Congress. With the GOP in charge of Congress and the White House, we have a tough fight ahead of us. I’m still committed to fighting for you every day in Washington and in CA-28.
