Will your MP join the Tories defending our NHS?

Dear
John
,

This Monday 20th July, the trade bill is back in parliament - and it contains absolutely no protection for our NHS from trade deals.

This is urgent – we’ve got just under 3 days.

11 Tory MPs are defending our NHS. Will your MP join them?

After everything our nurses, doctors and healthcare staff have done for us during this pandemic, the NHS is still very much on the table for Donald Trump and US healthcare companies to get their hands on.

Even worse, trade deals don’t even have to be approved by parliament. As it stands they can be signed off in secret without your MP having any chance to reflect your views - whether you care about ending privatisation of the NHS or chlorinated chicken.

That’s why Jonathan Djanogly, a Conservative MP, has put forward an amendment to give MPs the power to scrutinise trade deals. This gives MPs the powers they need to be able to protect our NHS.

10 other Tory MPs have signed up to the amendment along with Lab, SNP, LD, Plaid Cymru and the Greens

We need 33 Tory MPs to rebel against the government to stand up for basic democratic rights and the heros in our NHS. AND we need all opposition MPs to vote for Djanogly's amendment too.

Whether your MP is a Conservative or from another party, they need to hear from you now.

Right now, MPs have almost no say over trade deals. The government can begin, negotiate and sign a trade deal without any involvement from MPs. That means MPs cannot protect our NHS in trade deals.

So if your MP has reassured you that they would never vote through a trade deal that affects the NHS, that promise is meaningless - they can't vote against it either!

That means that Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish Parliaments don't get a say over how trade deals affect devolved matters, because trade deals can be negotiated and signed entirely by the Westminster government.

Tell your MP to vote for Djanogly's amendment:

Of course, this alone won't protect our NHS - we'll have to keep lobbying and making sure that each trade deal that is negotiated doesn't sneak our NHS onto the table.

We have to reinstate our NHS and remove private companies and corporate control from our health service - that's the only way to truly keep it safe from Trump and his private healthcare cronies.

But this amendment is VITAL for protecting not just our NHS, but our democracy.

Email your MP today and tell them to vote for this amendment!

The battle is on this Monday. If you've got a Tory MP, they could save the day. Whoever your MP is, they need to hear from you.

Let's flood their inboxes, let's get a rebellion on their hands. Let's protect our NHS the way it deserves to be protected.

YOU can put the pressure on right now that could turn things around.

THANK YOU for taking action.
