Hi John,
Under the guise of a ‘green transition’, a resource grab is taking place. Rich countries claim we need to increase the supply of minerals rapidly to build green technologies. Just last week, the government announced in their critical minerals strategy that the UK’s demand for lithium would increase by 1,100%. But our research shows that many of these minerals are destined not for the green transition, but for polluting industries like the military.
Rich governments are using trade deals to try to guarantee their access to critical minerals on whatever terms they demand. But we believe that countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America should be allowed to develop their own industries, share green technologies, and enshrine the right of local communities to say “no.” They should also be free from the threats of Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) clauses so foreign investors can’t sue countries which try to take control of their mining sectors or protect affected lands and communities.
We believe the green transition will only work if it’s based on principles of justice. In this way, the fight against climate change and the campaign for a just and equal international economy are one and the same. If you agree, please support us.
So far we’ve raised over £25,000 as part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge. We’re 57% of the way to our target of £45,000. But there’s still some way to go, and time is running out.
Will you stand with us and donate today, John?
For just 5 more days, every pound you give will be doubled through the Big Give Christmas Challenge. That means your support will go twice as far in building a fairer future for everyone.
Yes I'll donate ([link removed])
This goes beyond merely funding our campaign. Each donation is a step closer to real and lasting change. With only 5 days left in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, this is a crucial opportunity to double your impact and help power the fight for a more just future.
Thank you for standing with us.
In solidarity,
Nick Dearden
Director at Global Justice Now
P.S. We’re taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge but your donation can only be doubled until 9 December. Help our campaign for a green transition based on justice! ([link removed])
