Dear Higb,

You need no convincing that everyone's vote should be counted. It's a basic bedrock principle of democracy.

Unfortunately, we know that is not enough for too many. Politicians who struggle to maintain the confidence of their constituents are trying to disqualify as many votes as they can. The pandemic has made spotting technicalities easier, as hundreds of thousands of people voted absentee out of public health necessity.
Indeed, there are reports of over one-third of absentee ballots being disqualified in some election districts on technicalities.
This is simply unacceptable in a democracy.
Only the State Legislature can put an end to this by passing legislation to protect the people's right to have their votes counted.
Our friends at Common Cause NY are urging the State Assemly and Senate to act when they return to session on July 20. We are proud to join them in this effort.
