Earlier this week, I had a great conversation with actor, filmmaker, and entrepreneur, Joseph Gordon-Levitt . We bonded over movies (I love Rian Johnson’s Brick) before shifting into a conversation about faith. As I told Joseph, faith for me is about responsibility to others, and I’m a firm believer that religious and secular people share more common ground than the “culture wars” Republicans are pushing.
Our conversation then broadened to authoritarianism and AI. As you might have learned from my latest novel, Coded Justice [ [link removed] ], AI is a powerful tool that can either entrench authoritarian control or support a more inclusive democracy, depending on who shapes it. That’s why it is our responsibility to urge our elected officials—from school boards to state legislatures to Congress—to regulate data and technology. I hope you’ll check out the recording of the conversation, and tell me what you think in the comments.
