Hi JOHN,
After 60 years of operation, Lectorum Publications, the largest distributor of
Spanish-language books in the United States, is being forced to close. This
closurecreates a gap in access to Spanish-translated books across the country.
Alex Correa, Lectorum’s CEO, explained why: “The most critical factor for us
was theshift in federal funding policies for schools, in particular regarding
Title I funds, intended in part for purchases of books in Spanish.”
For years, Title I funding helped schools purchase Spanish-language books so
students could learn, grow, and see themselves reflected in their classrooms.
Now, the Trump Administration has cut off that source, and the impact is
immediate and painful.
JOHN, that’s why Educated We Stand is launching a 48-state strategy to stop
extremists from gaining control of local school boards — the very places where
decisions about curriculum, library access, equity, and student safety are made
every single day.
But to confront these attacks head-on, we need the resources to organize,
mobilize, and protect our kids — please chip in today.
