I sat down recently with a group of Californians barely making ends meet
to discuss the cost crisis.

Pedro, a warehouse operator, told me half of his paycheck goes to
utilities and groceries.

Carol, a distribution center worker, said that nearly three full paychecks
are going to rent in her two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment—and that cost
is rising. She needs the space to raise her two sons, but rent is cutting
into their food budget.

As a single parent myself, I know how expensive it is to live in nearly
every part and pocket of California, and how stressful it can be when
bills keep piling up.

Joel, a forklift operator, talked about the struggles many face in the
Inland Empire. Despite living in a supposedly affordable area, and having
a “classic” good paying union job, he still struggles to make ends meet.

These stories represent what millions of Californians are experiencing.
I’m running for governor to fight for Pedro, Carol, Joel, and every other
person barely getting by in the Golden State.

But winning this race won’t be easy. Republicans are surging, and a
billionaire just started rolling out massive ad buys. Simply put, I need
