Managing and containing the virus in Nottingham

Its the end of another busy week and most of us will be looking forward to spending time with family and friends. As we enjoy the easing of lockdown restrictions, it is important to remember that the virus is still prevalent.

Data has recently been available to local authorities that shows the number of confirmed cases across different neighborhoods and communities in a Covid-19 Surveillance Report [ [link removed] ]. This data allows local authorities to have better insight into where Covid-19 cases are occurring, so we can effectively respond to spikes in the spread of the virus.

So far, Nottingham has not seen the levels of Covid-19 experienced in other parts of the country. That is down to the way everyone has played their part in helping to manage the outbreak by staying home, staying safe, maintaining hand-hygiene and observing social distancing. We need everyone to continue to help us with this to keep our city and its people safe.

The best steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 are:


* Wear a face coveting in shops and on public transport
* Maintain social distance
* If youre out in our city, keep left on pavements and pathways
* Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds

Active Nottingham is extending its free taster sessions for online gym classes such as circuit training, yoga, chair-based exercise and HIIT (high-intensity interval training). Over the lockdown periodActive Nottingham revamped its online offer to help inspire Nottingham to keep fit at home. Classes are lived-streamed over Zoom and led by our own instructors, so Nottingham Active regularswill see some familiar faces! This is a great opportunity for members to get back into training again and for non-members to try something new. For more information visit Active Nottingham: Live [ [link removed] ].

Now that the Government has announced a further easing on leisure centres restrictions, were working hard on getting our sites and staff teams ready for opening. There will be a phased reopening; more detail about this will be available next week.

*Splendour At Home 2020*

Splendour at home

Sadly the much-loved Splendour Festival has become another event affected by the pandemic, but all is not lost. This year, instead of travelling to Wollaton Park, the festival will be beamed into homes across Nottingham and beyond.

Festival activities include a salsa class, comedy, interactive theatre and a Splendour quiz, alongside exclusive performances and archive footage from Splendours past. As well as entertaining the city, the event will be raising money for Framework which provides vital services for vulnerable people.

Are you a community group? Are you running sessions for youngsters this summer? Do you need help finding venues, food or risk-assessment guidance? Nottingham City Council is working with community organisations and charities to create a list of all the activities taking place this summer. We can match community groups to organisations offering venues, food and guidance.
