As we begin our new fiscal year, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of Verified Voting. Thanks to our partners like you, we’re able to continue advancing election security best practices in key states in the time we have left before November’s election.
I became Verified Voting’s president to help ensure that no election official - or voter - has to go through what I went through on Election Night 2016. As Pennsylvania’s Deputy Secretary for Elections and Administration, I knew first-hand all the work that had gone into preparing for November. And yet, as vote totals kept coming in that did not match the polling predictions, all I could do wascheck and recheck the numbers - knowing all the while that the paperless voting machines used at the time across the state meant I had no real way of demonstrating their accuracy.
One of the things I’m proudest of in my time at Verified Voting is that we fought for and won $90 million in bond financing for Pennsylvania so that the state could replace the old paperless systems. Now we are playing a key role in implementing PA's first statewide risk-limiting audit (RLA) pilot of the June 2 primary results, which will give election officials the tools they need to conduct a full statewide RLA. There is so much more to do, and what happens this November depends on the choices we make now.
