Governor Kelly Announces More than $19M to Improve Airport Infrastructure
TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly today announced three Kansas communities have secured over $19 million in federal Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act (IIJA) funding to bolster local airport infrastructure.
The funding from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program, combined with over $1.5 million in matching funds from the Kansas Infrastructure Hub and Build Kansas Fund, brings the total investment for this round of airport infrastructure grants to more than $20.5 million.
“Investing in our airports is crucial for enhancing connectivity and supporting local economies,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “These projects are receiving vital infrastructure grants, which will not only improve our airports and communities, but also strengthen the entire state’s transportation network.”
The Kansas airport projects receiving funding are:
- City of Lyons and Rice County – Construct T-Hanger & Taxilanes
- Build Kansas Funding - $5,400

- City of Newton – Runway Rehabilitation
- Build Kansas Funding - $73,150
- Federal Funding Awarded - $1,463,000
- Applicant Contribution - $3,850

Wichita Airport Authority – Jabara Airport Land Acquisition
- Build Kansas Funding - $51,750
- Federal Funding Awarded - $1,092,500

In addition to these five awards, the Build Kansas Fund has provided the required match dollars for 50 other federal grant awards across Kansas. The combined total investment by the Build Kansas Fund in all projects is over $36.6 million, which has resulted in federal grant awards of more than $104.6 million.
The Kansas Infrastructure Hub connects multiple state agencies and serves as a resource center for Kansas communities to identify best practices for maximizing IIJA funding opportunities. The Build Kansas Fund provides state matching dollars for projects throughout Kansas that successfully apply for federal grants under IIJA.
