Last night in Tennessee's 7th Congressional District, State Representative Aftyn Behn won 45% of the vote.
Donald Trump won that same District by 22 points just last year.
That is a 13-point swing to Democrats!!
If deep red Tennessee is seeing that kind of movement, we know that kind of shift is happening here too. And here's what caught my eye.
You've seen us talk a lot about Democratic over performance in local special elections (we've beaten 2024's numbers by an average of 30%!), but that has a lot to do with the specific turnout conditions of a Special versus a Midterm.
But last night in Tennessee, turnout was 99% of the Midterm turnout in 2022.
This was a sneak peek into what we are aiming for next November.
I want to be clear about what this means for Oklahoma. If next year we see a 13-point swing towards Democrats around the state: we will flip seats.
If there had been a 13-point swing in 2024, we would have 3 new Democratic State Representatives and 2 new Democratic State Senators!
Today, we have over double the candidates recruited as we did it this time in 2023. Not only are our close races that we know to invest in ready to flip, but we will be competing in places the Republicans haven't put the work into for nearly 20 years.
Last night is proof that our message is working. That more Americans than ever are fed up with Trump's chaos and his government that prioritizes the schemes of billionaires instead of protecting affordable healthcare.
So today I'm asking you to join our investment in Oklahoma.
We know there is real progress on the horizon. We've laid the groundwork for this moment with key investments in targeted voter registration in our swing districts, candidate recruitment, and professionalizing the campaign capacity around this state to help candidates run the winning campaigns they deserve.
We are Democratic strong, powered by grassroots efforts and activists of this Great State. Our mission is to fight for Oklahoma’s most vulnerable communities, protect working families and ensure that we live up to the promises of the Oklahoma dream.
