Tobacco to 21 Press Conference
Last Monday, I stopped by Floyd Central High School for a press conference on my Tobacco to 21 Act. With vaping and e-cigarette use on the rise among middle and high school students, it is encouraging to see strong student leaders in our Hoosier communities taking a stand to raise the tobacco age to 21.

Tackling Surprise Medical Bills and Health Care Costs
Surprise medical bills and high health care costs continue to plague patients and create unnecessary and unplanned costs for Hoosiers. I spoke with the Board of Franciscan Health about eliminating surprise medical bills, lowering health care costs, and protecting life.
On Thursday, I spoke to the Indiana Rural Health Association. In addition to lowering prices, we also need to make sure Hoosiers living in rural communities have access to the care they need. That means providing rural broadband access for telehealth visits and ensuring there are enough health care workers nearby. My Nursing Where It’s Needed Act provides incentives for nurses to work in underserved areas.

Shelby County Economic Development
While in Shelby County last week, I met with city and economic development leaders about the opportunities and challenges faced by the community. Keeping open lines of communication helps elected officials better serve Indiana.
Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce Luncheon
Last week, I joined Representative Larry Buschon at a Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce meeting to discuss Republican accomplishments that have benefited our economy over the last several years.
The Terre Haute Tribune Star and WTHI both covered the event.

Fighting Hunger and Food Insecurity
Working on global hunger and food insecurity is both a national security issue and a moral imperative for the United States. With the support of hundreds of concerned Hoosiers with Bread for the World, I’ve been able to use my position on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to elevate these humanitarian issues. Last week, I was able to provide an update to Bread for the World supporters in Noblesville, and I look forward to continuing to partner with this organization.

Columbus Farm Roundtable
Friday, I met with farmers from Bartholomew County and surrounding areas. Trade concerns and a wet spring have led to uncertainty in the ag community, and it’s important for me to hear directly from farmers and carry their concerns back to Washington. Agriculture contributes more than $30 billion to Indiana’s economy, so it’s important to continue supporting Hoosier producers. The Columbus Republic reports on our discussion.
